the author has explained the driving for economical change and has explained why the world is being driven is a specific way and how the world will continue to change as the values of what is important to run a country changes. eventually water will be more important than oil. but the population will continue to grow exponentially while the world continues to expand its relationships the chains that form are more of a world partnership and they all are linked to how the world operates today and what it it is setting up to be in the next 20 years. though these small steps the world has started to unite itself into a global community where they are becoming more dependent on each other rather than a self sufficient country. the beginning of this book talks about how the planet will be stretched in the coming years with a demographic explosion and then with different forces tugging on the economy the world will be pulled back together. the world can come out of this event ahead or it can be left behind and destroyed it all depends on what happens in the coming years.

Rischards presents many opportunities for us to improve the economy and to make the improvements all around, but how many of these opportunities can we take advantage of. he talks about how much companies will change and how inflation will become a thing of the past but the economy is dead right now nobody is changing and inflation is at an all time high. these chapters talk about how the government will be giving money to the economy to help propel it but the government did that and all the companies declared bankruptcy.

These chapters start to discuss the problems that are going on in more detail and discuss how the problems are bigger than the individual and how a group can affect the size of the problem. He has named all the problems and some possible solutions that could be done to help. This all ties back to being a global citizen because being involved helps people to understand and to correct the problem locally helps to solve it on a world scale. Also just trying to solve personal problems only lets the bigger and more dangerous problems grow until there is no chance to stop them.

In these chapters Rischards is talking about sharing the planet evenly and with everybody. Then all of the global problems and how the governing body is at fault for that because they could not control the individual goals over the common goal of the people. He uses the example of the herders in Europe as they continue to add animals to their herd they make it difficult for the land to sustain them and as each herder adds another sheep until the land cannot support them. This is the fault of the government for not regulating the amount of sheep that were added. He moves on to talk about global warming and how it is the biggest most dangerous problem out there right now. With a long list of consequences presents three possible solutions, limit carbon emissions from countries and letting every country claim the right to share in the emissions. Then there are ways to get power without making emissions. Then all of the natural problems like deforestation and fishery depletion. Richards then says that to save the world we need to eliminate poverty in all the nations and and to decrease the amount of fighting going on worldwide to come up with peaceful solutions and this alone would save billions of dollars that could be spent somewhere else. Only 1 out of every six adults can read and write this causes a huge problem when trying to create a technological world and fighting infectious diseases. Natural disasters are also a large problem in saving the world.

He talks about how the tax system is in need of serious improvement for its current state and how to find the weak points in an economy you need to expose it to those problems but this sometimes leads to the down fall of the economy. Rischards moves on to talk about what can be a good money mover in the economy but is illegal and bad for your health, drug trafficking. This is a huge problem it ruins thousands if not millions of lives every year and continues to grow and spread around the globe. Global citizenship is tied back into this by people being active participants in global regulation and being involved will lead to a decrease in drug trafficking that is going on.

Treaties and conventions are extremely ineffective while people can get together and talk about the world problems sometimes nothing ever comes out of this conference, also often times the enforcement is slow and weak. Then he talks about how there could be networks that work specifically on fixing the global problems. Rischards then goes on to explain what the networks need to be successful and to be able to solve the most problems. After finishing all of the book and discussing the problems and solutions Rischards talked about what he had left out and what he could not spend enough time on. Being a global citizen can be done at the level of people but also at the level of a country if the country remains isolated then they will fall behind, but if they are actively participating in world event then they are still being a global citizen.
